Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Asialin Powell (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) of the nationally ranked Indian Hills Volleyball squad has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, announced Wednesday afternoon.
Powell collects her second weekly accolade after earning the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honor on Tuesday. Powell becomes the fifth different player in program history to earn national player of the week honors for the Warriors.
Defensively, Powell starred for the Warriors once again. The sophomore tallied 103 digs in five matches last week for an average of 5.4 digs/set. Powell saved her most dominant performance of the year for the weekend finale with a career-high 28 digs vs. Eastern Wyoming. For her efforts, Powell surpassed 600-career digs over the course of the past two seasons for the Warriors.
On the year, Powell has produced 10 matches with at least 20 digs. Powell now ranks fourth overall in the NJCAA with 351 digs and fifth overall with 5.24 digs/set.
Indian Hills returns home for a pair of matches at the Hellyer Center this week. The Warriors will host Southeastern Community College at 7:00 PM Tuesday night before welcoming Jefferson College (MO) at 6:00 PM Friday.
The Warriors' homestand continues Friday night at the Hellyer Center with another nonconference matchup against Jefferson College (MO). Action gets underway at 6:00 PM.
