Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Asialin Powell (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) and freshman Farah Sherif (Alexandria, Egypt/EGC) of the No. 17 nationally ranked Indian Hills Volleyball squad have been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Volleyball Athletes of the Week.
Powell collects her fifth weekly honor from the ICCAC after leading the Warrior defense to a pair of wins last week. Sherif earns her second ICCAC Athlete of the Week honor following a pair of dominant offensive performances.
Powell continued a standout season on the court for the Warriors, tallying 47 digs in two matches to reach 900 career digs. Powell tied a career-high with 28 digs on the road vs. Des Moines Area Community College and added 19 more in a 3-1 win over No. 19 Iowa Western Community College.
Powell has now tallied double-digit digs in 30 of the team's 31 matches this year, including 27 consecutive contests. Powell currently ranks eighth in the nation with 585 digs and 5.42 digs/set this season.
Sherif posted back-to-back matches with 18 kills to pace the offense last week for the Warriors. The freshman posted an impressive .429 hitting percentage in the win over Iowa Western, committing just three attack errors in 35 attempts.
Sherif posted a double-double in each match last week, recording 13 and 12 digs, respectively, while adding a pair of service aces in each contest.
The Warriors are set to return to action with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Midwest District A Championship November 7-8 in Mattoon, IL. The Warriors, who earned an automatic bye in the opening round, will face the winner of Jefferson College (MO) and John A. Logan College (IL) at 6:30 PM Friday night.
