SOPHOMORES SHINE FOR NO. 19 IHCC IN 3-0 SWEEP

Ottumwa, IA – No. 19 Indian Hills Volleyball remained unbeaten at home with a 3-0 sweep over Hawkeye Community College on Thursday night. The Warriors improve to 19-7 overall on the year, including 6-0 at home.

The Warriors breezed past the Redtails in straight sets, 25-19, 25-8, and 25-15 to run its home winning streak to 16 matches dating back to the 2023 campaign. Indian Hills has now won 35 of its last 37 contests at the Hellyer Center, dating back to the 2021 season.

Thursday night's match served as Sophomore Night for the eight members of this year's veteran class. Sophomores Asialin Powell, Grace Hagge, Ana Luiza Caminha Matos, Luana Silva Ferreira, Piper Nelson, Joanna Pawlik, Aleksandra Oles, and Milica Peci were honored prior to the start of the match.

The Warriors used an impressive offensive performance on Thursday to run past the Redtails. As a team, the Warriors posted a .345 hitting percentage, tallying 42 kills in 87 attempts with just 12 attack errors. Sophomore Piper Nelson (Atkins, IA/Benton) tallied a team-high 13 kills on 26 attempts while Joanna Pawlik (Lublin, Poland/Nauczycieli Tajnego Nauczania) and Luana Silva Ferreira (Guimaraes, Portgual/Martins Sarmento) each added nine kills. Fellow sophomore Grace Hagge (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt), making her first start of the season, tallied a season-high seven kills to go along with a solo block.

Sophomore Ana Luiza Caminha Matos (Betim, Brazil/Augusto de Lima) posted 39 assists on the night, giving the setter 991 helpers for her Indian Hills career.

Asialin Powell (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) posted a team-high 18 digs  for the Warriors.

Nelson starred for the Warriors down the stretch as the sophomore recorded six of her career-high seven service aces in the second set alone. Leading 13-7 in set two, Nelson served up 10 consecutive points to push the Warriors to the 25-8 victory, its largest set win of the year.

Indian Hills now heads to West Burlington, IA for a triangular at Southeastern Community College on Saturday. The Warriors will take on Southeastern at 11:00 AM followed by a matchup with Sauk Valley Community College at 1:00 PM.
