Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Asialin Powell (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) of the No. 17 nationally ranked Indian Hills Volleyball squad has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Player of the Year, announced by the conference office Thursday.
Powell becomes the first libero to earn the coveted ICCAC Player of the Year honor after a standout sophomore campaign for the Warriors. Powell, who played in all 114 sets on the year, helped guide the Warriors to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Volleyball Midwest A District Championship, the ICCAC DI Volleyball Regular Season Championship, and a berth in the upcoming national tournament. Powell becomes the fifth Indian Hills student-athlete, and fourth consecutive, to earn ICCAC DI Volleyball Player of the Year honors.
"Asialin is a true leader on the court," stated head coach Lyndsey Michel. "She brings a voice every single day - the same hype whether it's practice or game day. Her court awareness is incredible, and her ability to read the offense is outstanding. She sacrifices her body on any given point—barreling herself after a short tip or chasing down long touches off the block—and making big plays."
In addition to Powell's individual honor, the sophomore was joined by three teammates on the NJCAA All-Region 11 First-Team while Michel was tapped as the ICCAC Coach of the Year.

Powell was a force on the defensive front all year for the Warriors. The sophomore, who has missed just three sets out of a possible 261 sets over the past two seasons, ranked fifth in the nation in total digs (635) and fifth nationally with 5.57 digs/set. Powell led the ICCAC by a wide margin in each category.
The sophomore was twice named the NJCAA DI Volleyball National Defensive Player of the Week and was a five-time ICCAC DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.
Powell has continued to climb the all-time leaderboards at Indian Hills. The sophomore's 635 digs this season currently rank in the top-10 in a single season in school history and is just 50 digs shy of 1,000 for her career at Indian Hills.
"I've said it all season long," Michel added, "she has to be one of the top serve receivers in the nation, and I truly believe that. Her finesse, ball control, and ability to put the ball in system on even the toughest plays leave me in awe many days. Multiple times, you'd catch coach Sarah (Beeson) and I on the sideline whispering to each other, 'She's soooo good.'
"But beyond her skill, Asialin's fiery, tenacious, charismatic personality, is what sets her apart. While she can dish out some competitive smack talk with the best of them, she's always the first one to lift up a struggling teammate and making everyone feel seen and heard. Her energy, heart, a side of sass, and relentless drive leads her to be the ICCAC player of the year."
Powell joins former teammate Sara Van Gisteren (2024) and alums Kinga Michalska (2023), Hennessys Lalane (2022), and Mariana Rodrigues (2019) to earn ICCAC DI Volleyball Player of the Year honors.
The Warriors are now set to compete at the NJCAA DI Volleyball National Championship for the fourth consecutive year. Indian Hills earned the No. 16 overall seed in the tournament and will take on No. 1 seed Miami Dade College (FL) at 4:00 PM on November 19 in Clarksville, TN.
